After StartupsNigeria.com Shutdown, What Next?
Following the recent buzz of the ‘unethical’ and ‘unprofessional’ shutdown of one of Nigeria’s top blog sites, StartupsNigeria.com by Vic Okezie of CareersNigeria.com, I’ve received quite a handful of calls (oops…my phone’s ringing again), emails, Twitter feedbacks, Twitter DM’s as well as Facebook feedbacks from loyal and concerned readers and followers.
Update: We have resolved this issue. I wish to express gratitude to my previous employer(s) and to the organization that hosted StartupsNigeria.com for the last one year. My apologies for any inconveniences this incident has caused. My appreciation goes to all those who have provided advice in handling this issue. Thanks for your interest and support.
For me, it has been an interesting experience providing answers to different questions from people. It feels like I’m already a web celebrity. Oh, not just yet. Truth is: I really can’t handle the fame:-)
Just looking at the @startupsnigeria replies on Twitter today, I noticed several web hosting offers (most of them for free), and I caught myself smiling. First, I was impressed at the show of support from those folks and secondly my thoughts were: If only we helped one another more often, we’d find more success in our ventures.
See an example below:

Another interesting thing is that, most of the folks that offered to help where people I’ve never met before and have not really had some informal conversation with before. So my appreciation goes to all those that have called, emailed, facebooked and twittered @startupsnigeria. Many thanks!
So what next for Startups Nigeria?
We’re still here. We’ll continue to build and promote startups, innovations and entrepreneurs from Nigeria as we set our sights on our vision to build the largest community of web entrepreneurs, developers, designers, founders as well as analysts and consultants in Nigeria.
If you would like to be part of that vision, simply send us your thoughts via email (subject: Suggestions) on how we can effectively build and manage a technology community for web entrepreneurs from Nigeria and around the world.
If you have any form of support, suggestions or would like to sponsor us to build this community, kindly send an email to: startupsnigeria (at) gmail.com with the subject ‘Support‘.
We’ll be providing more updates via this blog in the next few days, so please stay with us. We appreciate your feedback!

Are There Any Startups Nigeria Followers Left?
For the last 24 hours now, StartupsNigeria.com was shutdown by the owner of CareersNigeria.com, Vic Okezie. Apparently, the technology blog has been hosted on the same server as CareersNigeria.com and due to a conflict of interest, Vic Okezie decided to shut down the site.
Since I’m very passionate about startups and building a startup community, my hope is to provide news, information, updates as well as tips and advice for the technology startup community.
While I can’t say whether the updates would be provided via this blog or another, you can be sure that our vision to build the largest startup hub in Nigeria will see the light of the day.
I’ll also need your support to make that vision a reality, so your comments, suggestions and contributions are very much appreciated.
Looking forward to your readership and feedback!

Nigeria’s Top Sites for Dating, Love and Friendship
If you make a Google search of Nigerian dating sites, you’ll probably find 100 or more sites for friendship, dating & love run from either Nigeria, UK, or US. Gone are those days where you’ll find a lot of Nigerians in international dating/friendship sites such as meetic, hi5, etc
I’ve made a list of the leading Nigerian Friendship, Love and Dating sites that are getting average attention on the Internet. I’ve tried to narrow the list to only 10 dating sites; most of them are free, while they also require extra membership fees to enjoy special services.
#1 – meetnigerians.net offers featues such as user created groups, Nigerian music & video playlists, RSS News Reader, send discreet crushmail, 1-2-1 chats, events and a host of other great features to make your experience fun. The site has well over 50, 000 members and gets a reasonable traffic. It was formerly called nigeriandateline.com until recently.
#2 – sexynaija.com is the coolest Nigerian dating site I’ve ever seen in terms of its design and interface. In my opinion, the site speaks more of what a real dating site should look like. Some guys say that there are a lot of beautiful and sexy girls over there. Hmm, wearing bikinis? Go check out for yourself!
